Leveraging her background in law and having such deep family and business roots in Carroll County, Betsy Shaulis is running for the elected position of Resident Circuit Judge. On March 17, 2020, she won the democrat nomination and has advanced to the general election on November 3, 2020.

The Resident Circuit Judge position is in the 15th Judicial Circuit, and it is open due to the pending retirement of the Honorable Val Gunnarsson, for whom Betsy served as a law clerk.

Betsy's family in Carroll County date back 6 generations. Her descendants transported Abe Lincoln in their wagon to the Lincoln-Douglas debate in Freeport. She has been President of the Carroll County Bar Association since 2013 and she serves on the Executive Committee of Timberlake Playhouse in Mount Carroll as chairwoman of the Governance Committee.

Betsy is an active member of the YMCA and the Moose Lodge in Savanna. She is also a member in the local Chambers of Commerce, Rotary and Lion's Clubs in Chadwick, Lanark, Milledgeville, Mount Carroll, Savanna, and Shannon. She belongs to the Cornerstone Project, which is a voluntary group of Lanark residents who have saved and restored many of the town's
historical commercial buildings.
